He was born November 29, 1816, in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, his parents being Noble Calhoun Sr , and Sarah Taylor . His father was born near Cork, Ireland, and when about twenty-two years of age, crossed the briny deep to the new world, settling in Pennsylvania, where he followed farming. He there met and married Miss Taylor, a native of that state, and in 1831 they emigrated with their family to Richland County, where the father became the owner of a large tract of land. He was also the proprieter of a mill in this neighborhood, and the conduct of his business affairs gained a good capital. He died when about eighty-four years of age, and his wife passed away when seventy-seven years of age. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

When a youth of fifteen, the subject of our memoir accompanied his parents to Ohio, and ever after that was a resident of Richland County, Ohio. He assisted in the arduous task of transforming the wild lands into richly cultivated farmland, and to his father he gave the benifits of his labor until his marriage, after which he operated the mill for several years. When his father died, he became administrator of his will and settled the estate, and when the proprety was disposed of, Mr. Calhoon bid in his present home of two hundred and twenty-nine acres to which he has subsequently added forty acres. The cultivation of his fields and this improvement of the farm occupied the greater part of his time and energies and in this manner he has added continually to his income, his consistantly argumented capital making him one of the substantual residents of the community.

For five years he was the postmaster of Butler. He belongs to the Bellville Lodge, No 376, F. & A. M. of Bellville, and is a wide awake, enterprising businessman. Sarah Calhoun Died when 43 years old. D. L. is a farmer in Worthington Township. Margret, the youngest of the family , died at the age of seventeen years.

In his political views, Mr. Calhoon was early a Whig, and on the dissolution of that party and the organization of the Republican party joined the latter. In earlier days he took quite an active part in political affairs, and after serving for two terms as justice of the peace, refused to hold the position any longer. Many years ago he became a member of the Masonic Fraternity of Mansfield, and probobly lived to be the oldest Mason in Richland County, dying October 4, 1900. He was a man of strong individuality, of marked force of charecter, and of decided opinion. He had no use for anything or anyone that he didn't like, and ws very strong in friendship when he believed that it was given to one worthy of it. His career was an active, useful, and honarable one, and his life record contained many lessons that are worthy of emulation.

Maurice Henry Morrow [Parents] was born Jan 18 1875 in Norwalk, Ohio. He died Oct 18 1959 in Norwalk, Ohio. Maurice married Mable Abbey on Feb 3 1899 in Huron County, Ohio.

Maurice Henry Morrow was born on January 18, 1875 in Norwalk, Ohio. He was the firstborn son of Melville and Caroline (Simmermacher) Morrow. I have heard several stories about his childhood, and here is one of them.
My grandfather, Kenneth, is the youngest son of Maurice. He has told me about Maurice being involved in a Tornado when he was just a boy. A little research found the tornado occurred in August of 1884, when Maurice was nine.
As the story goes, Maurice's mother saw the storm coming, and got the family into the cellar. Being the oldest, Maurice was sent out to secure the barn to keep the animals in. As he ran to the barn, he saw the tornado was very close, and he would not have time to turn back. Reaching the barn, he locked the door and sheltered inside as the tornado hit.
Luckily, the tornado was only about an F2 on the fujita scale and only glanced the barn. In the middle of this maelstrom, a large board was hurtled through the wall and hit a bag of grain only a foot away from Maurice. The barn was moved several feet off of it's foundation. The tornado then went on to destroy an umbrella factory in Norwalk and kill a girl who worked there. Fifty people were injured in all.
Maurice met the daughter of Walter S. and Flora (Hackett) Abbey, Mable Abbey, and married her on February 3, 1899 in Huron County, Ohio. They had seven children, all boys.
The first was Harold Emerson Morrow, born on September 16, 1900. He died in 1918, never being married.

Fourth was Herbert "Herb" Maurice Morrow, born on June 12, 1911. He married Harriet Christine Gray on August 24, 1936 in Fitchville, Ohio. They had four children, Carol Ann in 1938, Jack Ira (mentioned in the introduction) in 1943, Margaret Sue in 1944, and John Lee in 1946.

He has been described to me as a very intelligent man who read to his grandchildren out of encyclopedias, and always had plenty of books around. He also had one heck of a good recipe for molasses cookies. He died on October 18, 1959 in Norwalk, Ohio.

Mary Wolfe was an excellent cook. Unfortunatly, only one of her recipes has survived, hoska, the fruit and nut bread. I have heard about her cottage cheese pie, made with cottage cheese, suger, nutmeg, milk, and just a little bit of flour. That went into an uncooked pie shell, made out of bread dough. I have also heard about her vegetable soup. My fater said the only time we had ever seen her without an apron on was at her funeral. She cooked that much.
